Okay, let me know if you still get ads; apparently, there was an “auto-ads” setting still on and I have now turned that off.

Safari did show them for me, in fact.
They are now gone now, thanks Chris, much appreciated!

Greatly appreciated, Chris. I did not mind the ads that showed up on the side panel, but I visit several sites that have the ads that pop up when you either move the cursor as if you are leaving, or if you click on a link. Definitely annoying.
