NotesHub is a rather elegant little application I discovered recently, developed by a very amiable and responsive chap. It’s available for a very modest fee for Mac, iPhone and iPad, and consists of a mixture of notes and kanban boards.

My main task/project management now takes place on TickTick (we transferred back to TickTick from Pagico some time ago, because TickTick now does so many things really rather well and very easily, and because Pagico is just a little too complicated – although let me be clear: it’s an amazing piece of software, and getting better with every iteration).

But I like to have a board with my main tasks for each day of the week up in front of me, and after experimenting with various simple kanban solutions (TickTick supports kanban too, of course, but I prefer to keep it focused on my main project view, which is enormous), I found NotesHub.

It’s a deceptively simple piece of software. The relatively spartan interface conceals a wealth of elegance. Only after you’ve investigated it a bit do you find out just how powerful it is. It has exceptional support for markdown (probably the most extensive support of any app I’ve ever used, with an excellent, easily accessible help file to remind you exactly what you can do – as well as a menu bar for all the most commonly used commands). It supports links between kanban boards and notes. It supports folders. It even supports tags, although Alex hasn’t got round to putting in the relevant filters just yet – they’re on the roadmap, however!

I love this app despite – and those who know me will be amazed – the lack of a search function! Again, this is on the roadmap. But Alex has taken the sensible decision to store all data as simple markdown files, in iCloud for syncing purposes, so that it’s easy to find stuff using Spotlight. And easy to import it into other apps if you so wish.

I’m always enthused by really well-written, small-footprint independent apps (other excellent examples for Mac include Noteship and Growly Notes); this is definitely one for the treasure trove.

Cheers,
Bill

There is also a Windows app for 2.99 Euro.

It also supports internal links (and has a “back” arrow), and you can open notes or boards in separate windows if you wish.

It’s really growing on me!

It reminds me a lot of KanbanFlow.  That is what I use when I need just a simple board with minimal friction.  I leave ClickUp to do all of the heavy lifting for my projects.
