In case anyone is interested: https://www.thebrain.com/store/cyber-monday

The offer is 15% off.

I’m thinking of giving it a try. I first found out about The Brain through ExcaliBrain (which, being free, is a lot more affordable). I want to find out if it’s a good tool for connecting lots of smaller ideas (as apposed to large notes like Obsidian).  The Brain’s graph view is also very different from Obsidian’s.

I believe if Excalibrain resonates with you TheBrain will, too, and I think you’ll find it will be low friction.

Tempting, that offer. Would like to hear how it works out for you if you start using TheBrain.

I’ve been testing the free version for the past month or so. You can create thoughts and add notes, but you cannot use tags or thought types, nor attach file links. However, you can sync to Android, so the free version is already a good mindmapping application in its own right. I would like to get the pro version to use thought types and tags for better classification.

I made a comparison to ExcaliBrain, which I share here for interest.
+ The Brain advantage
- The Brain disadvantage
= Both the same

TheBrain comparison with Obsidian ExcaliBrain
- A lot more expensive
- Lacks attributes / properties
= Tags are used for attributes
- No note templates
- Very limited Android app
+ Can handle very large number of thoughts
+ Change depth of visible linked items
+ Change sort order of thoughts in the view
+ Curved lines
+ Directly create linked notes
+ Easy to move and relink notes
+ Easy to extract child thoughts
+ Web access from a browser
+ Automated sync
= Colour schemes for formatting notes
= Link typing
= Markdown notes
= Thought formatting
= Thought types and tags
