Launched in June.

Most of the mind mapping features are free. There is a subscription for advanced features, outliner, batch actions and shortcuts, and some of the subscription features can continue to be used even if you end the $9.99/yr subscription.

Escape's developers did a good job of making their app look like MindNode.

Escape's mapping module does resemble Mindnode's.
But Mindnode doesn't do text outlining well, while Escape has a separate writing mode that seems more like a color-coded version of Dynalist.

MindNode could be so much more. For instance, I'd like to see three dimensions. Let each node potentially have a sub-map and MindNode would be truly awesome.
But I can't quite stop using it. The outlining could be better. Otherwise, it's pleasant on the eyes and MindNode support is really awesome.
There was an update a few days ago that clobbered the layout of the Command-K link popup. I emailed MindNode, got a reply in an hour or so that said it would be fixed in the next update. The next update was a few hours after that and the link entry field was fixed.
Mistakes happen, no big deal. MindNode pays attention to problem reports, and that is a big deal. Very nice.
