I have previously used AVG free, and now use Avira free on my home machines.  Both are reasonable, as well as many others.  In addition to an anti-virus program, you should probably be using a firewall program, like Comodo, if you do not have a firewall already installed, and a malware program, like Malwarebytes.  You can probably take many other steps to protect yourself, but these three types of software will take you a long ways towards safe web use.
