I have been weary of trusting my info to the cloud, but I can see clearly specific advantages:

For the users:
- No need to bother with installing software
- Less reliance on costly hardware
- Much more free stuff, as companies try different business models

For the developers:
- Much more rapid development cycle
- No need to test each and every piece of hardware that will use their product

The disadvantages are also there, and these are mostly felt by experienced users.
- Reliance on third parties for data security
- Being at the mercy of the service provider’s business: recently Twine.com was closed down, and user contributions discarded

However, I do not see it as an either/or issue. That is why I use products such as Evernote and Nomadesk which allow me to have my data both locally and on the cloud.
