Thanks Cassius, I finally got to it, step 1 had been the problem, my free commander had fooled me, showing me yet unextracted files as if they had been automatically extracted ; I HATE zip files for the multiple problems I encounter with them. So finally, thanks to you, I got to IQ, and I am seriously considering buying a mac now in order to get far better outline software on that platform. Nobody had been willing to discuss my opinion about acessability of basic program features, AND I didn’t get any answer to my question why people are SO fed up with Ultra Recall. Well, I see now that IQ will NOT devastate UR’s market ; perhaps it’s much better than its rival yet, or will be much better in some time, but it will need to prove it not in the process of use, but before that, in order for people to switch. At this time, I cannot imagine why people would make that switch since I don’t grasp IQ’s USP over UR ; what I grasp is that they share the same level of perfect inability to understand how a large public would like to be helped in their work, and so, deliberately both confine themselves to serving a select cognoscienti club,

like it is here in this forum represented where contributors are chatting most of the time like in an art gallery, with cocktail glasses in their hands, instead of really going to basics, but which anyway constitutes an added value for murtland ( since real highbrow elements show up here and there ) - cf. his incredibly foolish murtworld.com where he is on his own - and which allows him to sell his advertising without personal effort except for shutting up people, thus in the real web 2.0 way relying on selling third parties’ freebee work… whereas the creator of surfulater asks us / you ( in “The Economics of PIM’s” ) to not only work for murtland for free, but also to spend money to be allowed to be here ( “If the forums users donated funds or payed an annual subscription” ), which is so extremely gross of him that I think people should think thrice before buying any surfulator product.

He also says there, “An annual renewal or upgrade plan can be very effective. People will not renew unless new and useful versions are released” which is an even grosser lie since the annual subscription formula he advocates ( and which as a developer he must advocate in his own interest ) is just the ultimate trap : When the software BUYER isn’t happy any more with his purchase, he will have to look out for something else, RENOUNCING on buying updates in the meanwhile but allowed - and able - to use his bought software up to the time when he will have found better, then happily transferring his data into the replacement software and forgetting about the old ( or reselling it for some bucks, perhaps ).

But franks pretends falsely, for his non-purchase but subscription scheme, “People will not renew unless new and useful versions are released”, the opposite of which is exactly the point : When you just LEASE software you aren’t anymore happy with, you’ll have to pay altogether every subscription fee / annual renewal, as long as you haven’t got replaced that “crap” software and / or have got any information in that software, e.g. some people work with their replacement software, but have got a lot of data in their “former” software which they do not want to migrate, for any reason :

Thus, franks’ scheme is forcing upon you investing in software you do not any longer like, whereas with bought software, you won’t make any other investment into it. He could retort that “of course” your ancient data is always accessible and exportable, but even this would be a kindness after expiration date of the software subscription, not a matter of course or your legal right, and then, even with “old” data, you would like to have some possibility to add or to change details, or even get new record into them.

So, contrary to franks’ allegation that people wouldn’t buy any subscription renewals when those weren’t worth it by their quality, people would be forced to buy those renewals, notwithstanding their quality or usefulness for the user, just in order to not lose access to their data, which is the exact opposite of what he pretends : instead of being good to his customers, he would like to get more and more money out them them.

But, as we see here in this forum, claims of marketing people go almost unchallenged, except for UR staff which seem to be “out”, and there is always the question of censorship which makes for self-censorship in the writings of contributors. When you are willing to acknowledge any positive element, be it as you see it or when others bring it to your attention, you should have the right to speak out freely, without having concerns, “will this get thru, will that be censored”.

By which this forum is not a forum I can develop freely my thoughts. Goodby to all.
