There might be lots of good reasons for the Scrintal business strategy, but there are also lots of reasons to find the hype-centric approach distasteful. Certain practices seem to be becoming normalized, but that doesn’t mean they should become accepted.
If developers want to require a paid subscription in order to test software (or even if they want to require hour-long onboarding calls), they shouldn’t make it sound like users are somehow lucky to have the opportunity to spend their money/time for the honor. It’s almost insulting to play up the hype card, the countdown, until the lucky day when users can spend their money/time in order to test something, rather than testing it first and then deciding what to invest. I have no problem with the pricing structure—-they have the right to set their terms—-but the strategy-plus-hype is a bit much.
