Any other outliner that works nicely with HDD folders?

There are a few mindmappers that have this functionality. For example, there’s the dView plugin for Freeplane: https://www.freeplane.org/wiki/index.php/Information_management_withFreeplane_add-on_dView(indexfile) It even works with Sharepoint folders.

There was also a more traditional outliner developed by the KFTF research team that used this as the core idea for the outliner, i.e., every item in the outline was also backed by a folder. At some point it got renamed to Planz, but never moved beyond the prototype stage. See here: http://kftf.ischool.washington.edu/projects.htm
