Okay, so it’s only very tangentially related to outlining, but it’s worth mentioning that SoftMaker Office is now available for Mac.

One of the best “alternative” office suites that nobody’s ever heard of, SoftMaker Office has been available for Windows and Linux for years; there’s also an Android version (there used to be a WindowsCE version, too).

Its shout-out feature is the fact that it uses Microsoft Office file formats by default. It doesn’t import/export MS files - it’s quite capable of opening and saving them just as they are. The best bit? No subscription, just a straight-up price.

For superior German-made software that does have some claim to outlining (they have file navigation options similar to those in MS Word), check it out! (http://www.softmaker.com)

Cheers,
Bill
