Tinderbox received an update today to version 7.  The new version includes quite a lot of interesting tweaks and one major addition:  composites.  Notes can be grouped into a “composited” set of notes that are glued together on Tinderbox maps.  Composites can be thought of as a collection of related notes—for example, the built-in example of a “lecture” composite in v7 comprises seven individual notes: “where, title, author, author2, abstract, note, question”.

Another interesting new feature is notes dragged in from DEVONthink can be configured to “auto fetch” the content of the note—and periodically grab any updates to the note that you make in DEVONthink.  This auto fetching is also working with file:/// URLs and others.

See the release notes for more.

The level of effort and experimentation that Mark Bernstein has consistently, by himself, put into Tinderbox is impressive.  The app probably has the most confounding and also, once mastered, most rewarding set of features of any consumer software.  The price is steep but worth it, IMO.
