nested display / editing of multiple small text files as a single document

Not sure if this would fit into your workflow. If under Windows OS, there is a text editor called NoteTab the Pro version does allow for ‘outlines’ which can be nested and linked to different sections of text file or another file. There is a demo available that will allow for testing to see if it fits.
