There is probably such a thing as a CRIMPer’s life cycle, as Steve seems to have described a similar stage, and I’m also focusing on improving the existing set-up.

First you collect a bunch of software, learn about them, then select your favourite ones, refine the workflow, simplify the setup, occasionally add or remove items from the collection, and deploy the right tool for the right task.

Then probably there is a major revision or shake-out every once in a while, as software and hardware paradigms shift or as new problems arise.

It’s probably like becoming a ninja. First you need to learn about all the tools, so that you can develop your process flow and choose the right tool for the right job :)
