Steve Z,

I used GV for EVERYTHING: writing, free-form data base, to-do, chron file, etc., etc.  Of course, if I had to do a statistical computation, I had to go elsewhere.

I bought Zoot a long time ago, long before the current version.  The current version & more was supposed to be available a few months after I bought it.  It was years.  A new version is out, but is still being revised.  After the very long wait, I pretty much gave up on it.

I use Jot+ because it is (1) very easy to use; (2) its author crafted it with some thought as to useability.  There are now some recent Jot-like competitors fom Russia that are quickly expanding their capabilities.  Also from England is Skwyrul.

If I didn’t care about a hierarchical structure, I’d probably use Ask Sam.  If InfoSelect had more formatting capabilities and didn’t charge half an arm for updates, I’d probably go with it.  At least AskSam & InfoSelect have both been around a long time, which bodes well for the future.

I also have Inspiration 6 (5 had bug), but it just doesn’t “feel” right for writing or for databasing.

After spending all the effort customizing GV, I am loath to invest much time in learning and/or customizing a program that might go away at any time.

-Steve C
