Here is a list of my 3 favorite Windows outliners. I use each one for a different task as neither of them are an all-in-one solution for my needs.

1. MaxThink (DOS) http://www.maxthink.com
Great for its speed and numerous unique creativity boosting tools. This program is really not intended for formatting text but excels at organizing it. It’s a bit quirky (like it’s creator) and takes awhile to get used to.
- I like to use this app mostly for brainstorming.

2. Inspiration (Win) http://www.inspiration.com
Good outliner with a lot of useful features. It can toggle between outline and diagram views. The only thing I don’t like is the appearance of the interface. IMO this is probably the best currently available straightforward outliner for the Windows platform.
- I prefer to use this app for organizing and formatting my writings.

3. Info Select (Win) http://www.miclog.com
This is really more of a “free-form database” app than it is an outliner, though you can easily write outlines with it. It has a few quirky aspects, like removing some formatting from text that is pasted into it. The new 6.0 Beta has some very interesting features.
- Because of it’s ability to handle graphics, HTML files and external files and it’s superior search capabilities, I find this app very useful for organizing research material.
