Re Info Select.

I prefer to think of tree-based “outliners” as “table of contents-ers.”

“Outlining” is OK, but topics vs notes is a pain.  Try Jot+ or Skwyrul, both of which are in process of major enhancements.

You guessed it…I have a math Ph.D.

Jot+ is as easy to “dump” info into, but it doesn’t have many other of the capabilities IS does (e.g. graphics).  The ability to fast search many IS files at once is, I believe, IS’s strongest point.  To do something similar, I use separate file/text search programs.  I probably would have kept IS if it had better formatting capabilities.  The beta ver. 6 had features I’d never use except for the print preview.  Jot + does well at printing.
