First of all, thanks for the tip; I don’t know about everyone else, but I certainly wasn’t aware of this.

Apparently, the reason that the trick works with OpenOffice but not with Word is that OO accepts the text file as HTML because of the extension, while Word still seems to “investigate” further.

So one needs to edit the the text file and put <html> at the start and </html> at the end and it works.
