Graham,

Sounds as if you are settling into AskSam as your solution. If you decide you want to continue to explore other options, you might want to give a program like TreeDBNotes a try. I don’t consider this a serious information manager, but more of an information book builder. What I mean is that it doesn’t have a lot of features for capturing and organizing information (beyond the tree structure), but it claims to import Word files and builds executable e-books, so you could share the files easily (assuming they import properly).
