I am not playing any such role. I am telling it like it is both from a consumer point of view and from what I see of buyers habits over many years.

Companies with deep marketing pockets can nearly always get their flashy new product well reviewed and accepted in the market place, even though it doesn’t have the substance that its competitors have. Blame the marketing companies and the gullible consumers for this, not me.

My take is that as consumers it is in *your best interest* to have the developers of the products you use ensure their products remain competitive in the marketplace, so they continue to win new business and stay in business. This may mean improvements to their UI or it may not. It may mean they need to provide better and more timely support and the list goes on.

Writing good software is a very time consuming and expensive business to be in, and very competitive, especially with so much crap around. Our costs keeping rising, but consumers expect cheaper or even *free* software. Who knows where it will end.
