1. There seems to be a lot of new members in this forum, so…

I have established a “backup” Yahoo! group should Outliners.com ever die for good. You might want to make note of its address:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/outliners-pim

Outliners.com is probably experiencing glitches because it is being run on a Harvard University server. After Dave Winer left his company, the new management apparently asked him to take O.c off the company’s server.

Derek has asked: “Every time this happens I get worried about whether the Outliners archive will go down the tubes. This would be a pity, given all the great discussion of software that’s gone on over the years.

“Back in 5/27/01 John Lai talked about getting the whole archive downloaded using something like Webzip (presumably there are lots of alternatives by now). Has anyone done this, do you know? If we had to transfer to Yahoo at some point, we could keep a copy in the Files section for people to consult. I know that a lot of it is cached by Google, but I don’t know their policy on keeping older materials. I remember with great regret how many Compuserve forum archives vanished without trace because CIS just pulled the plug on them without warning.

“Hope I’m not closing this stable door after the horse has bolted…

“Derek”

Some of the group may have Web site download software which might be able to capture all of Outliner.com’s old messages. (My current system is too puny to try it.) Whether this could be done, and whether it could then be posted in the Files or Database section of the Yahoo Group “Outliners-PIMs” I don’t know. But if someone is willing to try…

2. If you prefer a PIM that can display and edit material that is actually in other files, check out the software at

3. Have you noticed that there are few, if any female members of this group? Is PIMming a “guy” thing, like repeatedly changing TV channels with the remote? (Before remotes were invented, no one would have expected that male DNA included a “remote channel changing compulsion” sequence.) How do all you CRIMPers get your work done? Are you sans spouse and children? If you are married, be careful. I know of golf widows that tired of their husbands never being around and decided to dump them.
