I used to run GV under WIN98SE in a “dos-box” (command prompt window) and now use it similarly in XP. I have had few problems with the changeover. Like you, I open GV files from within GV (I do that for almost all my software, actually). The only hitches I recall - and these applied to WIN98SE, too - are:

1. One can’t use Alt-Enter to make a sub-headline as this conflicts with the Windows command to go to and from dos-box to full-screen. Presumably it would be possible to change this, but I haven’t tried.

2. The biggest annoyance is the size of the dos-box. Using the TT Lucida Console 14 setting for the font-size, the display maximizes at about 2/3 of the screen horizontally, and extends to the bottom of the screen vertically. I have experimented with other specialized DOS screen fonts, but although larger displays can be achieved, one runs into scrolling problems. Of course, one can run it full-screen, but the available DOS font on my Thinkpad A31’s display is rather clunky.

Uwe Sieber, at http://www.uwe-sieber.de/dosfon_e.html, has a number of alternative fonts, some of which I have tried out.

Derek
