I’ve actually gotten pretty comfortable with the outliner capabilities in Microsoft Word, versions 5-6 and 98. Although I usually take notes with In Control.

In Word, you can alter the styles of each level of heading to suit your needs, and there are keystrokes to move items around. I used to use Mindwrite, but it, too, no longer works on modern Macs. - Richard
