Yes, I got involved in a long discussion of the merits of Grandview vs. the NB outliner on their listserv last year. I wasn’t convinced at the time, but now think we all probably had in mind different approaches to writing papers, or different stages in that process. NotaBene is certainly a wonderfully complete approach of its kind.

Same here. The hassle of converting is often a problem and, when collaborating, the tracking and “comments” features are really useful. As you say, many programs are designed to work best with Word - e.g., some bibliogrpahic ones.

That’s very like mine, except that at present I am still using Zoot-> Grandview -> Word. I have registered Brainstorm, but it’s hard to break with GV, despite the irritation of having to work in a DOS box in XP, or full-screen with clunky fonts. AND despite the hassle of having to export from GV into a windows outliner (like Inspiration, NoteMap, or Brainstorm) in order to get it into Word.
As Brainstorm will also export its outlines into GV, I will probably try the following: Brainstorm -> Grandview -> Brainstorm again (for converting) -> Word. But I can see that your workflow solution may be a lot less trouble for very little loss of function.
