Well I had Library Master before I had NB.

Library Master is a small and flexible data base, customised for bibliographic data, but you can in fact set up any type of data base in Library Master.

On the Nota Bene forum there has been some discussion about NB users sticking with Library Master because of its increased flexibility, (for example, I think there was a thread on nested references). With NB8 you can import Library Master tagged export files and Library Master will import Ibidem files directly.

I currently have the entire program and database on a USB memory stick, which allows me to move my bibliogrpahic data between offices and computers.

I use the Web of Science online bibliographic service and Library Master will directly import saved records from this service (Nota bene cannot do this).

Although, I am increasingly using NB for writing, I still need to share Word documents with some clients/colleagues, and for large documents with extensive formatting/graphics I still use Wordperfect. Library Master works with Word and Wordperfect. It also works with Nota Bene, should you not want to use Ibidem.

The citation tags are simple text tags, so I can add citation tags from Library master into a Brainstorm Outline, which will then work when I export the outline into Word/Wordperfect.

Library Master gets this veratility by being a fairly primitive program ie it creates a second RTF file of your doc to add the refeences to, which then becomes your new master doc.

Library Master allows me to produce an annotated reading list for my students (Ibidem cannot do this).

So I am using Library Master as a “Master database” which is portable. Copying records into Ibidem as required.

Unless you have some special requirement, I cannot see any pressing need to get LM if you already have Ibidem. The NB/Ibidem working environment is by far the best combination I have used for writing.

Graham
