Jack: Good carpenters and plumbers have a toolbox full of tools specifically adapted to the job at hand, rather than all-in-one tools which are inevitably compromised by their design.

Brilliant comparison; indeed, it has often been pointed out that (non-numerical) information management is still in its infancy compared to “older” skills. Consider, for example, how the tools in the professions you mentioned complement each other.
