[Alx: Saving files as objects within the notes pane, i.e. displaying an icon such as “Microsoft Excel Document” is also supported.]

[Charlie: Including files as attachments or packages is one thing. Including them as embedded objects is another. An embedded object can be edited within the container app.]

Mybase and Hyperclip actually are able to do what Charlie refers to, though not with the versatility of InfoRapid or Word, i.e. providing additional toolbars.

In the past, I had tried to drag-and-drop files within Hyperclip’s note pane, but for OLE to work one must go through the menu, namely Insert / Object (for Hyperclip) and Text / Insert / OLE Object (for Mybase).

In this way, an Excel object is displayed as a table within the notes pane; when double-clicking on it, an Excel window opens in the area of the object, providing the spreadsheet editing controls; right-clicking brings up the relevant Excel conext menu.

I expect other OLE-enabled two-pane outliners to do the same. So, if a single-pane outliner could operate as an OLE/COM server, this version of meta-outlining would indeed be possible.

Perhaps everybody else around here had known this all the time, but as the Greek saying goes “I am always learning as I grow”.

:-)
