SRD:
“I’d be interested in what unique idea you see crystallized in ADM.”

Well, crystallized might be too strong of a characterization! :-)

To me, the unique part of ADM is actually a combination of the outlining interface and the fact that they are trying to combine outlining and info storage. Perhaps “unique interface” is more apt than “unique idea.”

I like ADM’s three-pane view, which I find good for quick brainstorming. It reminds me of Brainstorm in a way, in that only a small subset of the outline is visible at once. Yet, it’s also different than hoisting. I think the ADM concept of switching between different views (classic outline view, two- or three-pane, doc view, etc.) is a good idea. It would be better if it worked more consistently without “index out of bounds” errors.

I guess the unique part of their data storage approach is having a strong outliner combined with the text card. I liked Ecco’s outliner, but there was nowhere to put longer documents. Zoot works great for the card data, but you can’t really outline in it.

I must confess to not really understanding outlining in a text card view, unless this is the main outline and the other level of “outlining” is simply a tree to organize the outlines.

Anyway, I’ve been using UltraRecall for two months straight. It’s about the longest run I’ve had in a while for sticking with one thing, but I do enjoy discussing these apps.

I still start up Zoot every couple of days just to gaze fondly at it…
