Eons ago, in this forum, I used a book metaphor for some of the PIMs. In particular, I suggested that the tree in a two-pane “outliner” could be viewed as a table of contents with the ability to rearrange the chapters and subchapters. The find function in a PIM could be considered to be a flexible, powerful index.
