That’s one of the main items on my wish list in fact. Why should I need to learn and use separate editors when composing e-mails, notes, press releases or whatever? Why should they in turn support spell checking through separate, and often inconsistent, modules?

[As currently available, however, it requires too much extra effort. If this process were as seamless as the way in which Outlook uses Word to edit e-mails, then, as you say, it would be quite handy.]

I agree. It’s also true that I myself am not aware of RTF enabled outliners/PIMs supporting the feature. But I maintain that it should be easy to implement. In fact, I’ll be writing to the Hyperclip development team to suggest this.
