I haven’t used it, nor do I have Journal writing experience, but I wonder whether a new product—out now only in beta—might not be the way to go. It is called EverNote. It combines free form database functions with a continuous view based on date. It seems to have some of the technology common to OneNote and GoBinder, permitting use of a tablet PC, if you think you might ever go in that direction.
