Thank you John Vulich, for jogging my memory. That was it: MaxThink.

Now I will search for it one the web—it had such, ach, character. Sorry it dropped out of sight (as did many worthy, non-Microsoft products).

I will also check out the outliner that the second poster mentioned. Thanks to him too.
