I have to admit that this is my experience as well. Some how I feel more in control of what I’m doing with an outline. The other drawback to the mind map, at least on my small moniter, is that I lose the effect quickly, because it doesn’t take long for most of the image to be off-screen. With an outline, I can also add detail to my heart’s content. I don’t find that works as well with the mind map. Of course, I haven’t worked nearly as much with mind maps as I have with outlines. Perhaps it’s a matter of comfort.
