Any thoughts about this one? https://www.sortingthoughts.de/

Surprised I’ve never heard of it since it seems to closely fit what I’ve been looking for.

Classic primary hierarchy and sense-of-place similar to onenote.  Alternate structure via tags (though they appear to not nest).  And be still my heart it shows ‘incoming links’!  Even without the task/project stuff this is already looking neato. I’ll start my trial run tomorrow!  Unless I run across another shiny thing that makes me forget this one.

It’s been out for a loong time, at least 7 years. With the exception of the GANTT chart view(!) it closely resembles DEVONthink, EagleFiler and Evernote. I never saw enough in it to want to try it on my Mac, especially after spending many years in DEVONthink and then EagleFiler.

The slightly clunky (last time I checked) iOS companion app is free in the App Store.

Thank you for the background info!  I’m in a Windows world and have been envious of Devonthink…and many others, for a long time.  A little disappointing that this one isn’t available on Android, but very few robust info managers even have a mobile sync option anyway.  EagleFiler rings a very faint bell to me, will have to look it up to refresh my memory.

You don’t value the ‘incoming links’ being shown?  That’s become one of my biggest wants.  Now that I’m looking closely for them, I’m finding it to be a rare feature.

Just been sniffing again at Sorting Thoughts 2.0.

Well, what an interesting app. A classic two-pane outliner, but with some neat extras, including projects, tasks, subtasks, subtasks of subtasks and - for those who care for such things - starting dates and GANTT charts.

It’s a very easy app to underestimate, because the interface is very minimalist. But the functions are really rather clever. And yes, it does list incoming/outgoing links, support versioning, and sync with iOS apps. It also runs on Windows as well as macOS.

Cheers,
Bill
