Eastgate released Tinderbox 7.2 today.  Though not billed as a major release, I think it has some interesting new features among the usual performance improvements and bug fixes.

Among the new features:

- Ability to specify a markdown processor (or use the one Tinderbox defaults to) so that notes created with markdown can be rendered in Previews and Exports
- A new “Markdown” prototype built-in to facilitate creation of markdown notes
- Improved imports of notes from DEVONthink—imports now include the original note’s creation and modification date
- Improved drag of text snippets from Safari to Tinderbox—the URL of the source web page is automatically added to an URL attribute for that note in Tinderbox
- Improved drag of actions from OmniFocus to Tinderbox—imports the task’s key dates: Defer Until becomes $StartDate, Due becomes $DueDate, and Completed becomes $EndDate.  If a task was completed before the present time, the note is marked as $Checked.  If the task has a note, the text of the note is placed in the Tinderbox note’s text.

I’m a big fan of Tinderbox and I’m happy to see Eastgate add or improve features to make Tinderbox play well with the macOS ecosystem.  In my opinion v7.2 is very significant for regular users and folks who might want to kick the tires to see what’s up with Tinderbox.

the Markdown support is a surprise.

With Simplenote sync, now, you have an ecosystem.

It is just too expensive for me….

It’s interesting to see the latest version of Curio positioning itself as a direct competitor to Tinderbox.

Mind you, even the Professional version of Curio is cheaper than Tinderbox.

On the other hand, it doesn’t have the DEVONthink-a-like auto-matching of records etc. Which is quite neat!

Despite said neatness, even my CRIMPer’s soul hasn’t yet been tempted by Tinderbox.
