I haven’t seen this here: Outline Pro for iPad, by Ventureblocks LLC. It appears to be a two pane outliner designed for writing. However, the left most pane is a “section” pane - the information still appears on the right, and paragraphs can be indented and bolded by gestures. What I like (as a writer) is a built in word count, as you type. Import and export functions include OPML, and export includes text and PDF. $9.95. The website has a good comparison chart to some other outliners. See http://www.outlineproapp.com/features/comparison-with-competing-apps/. I haven’t put it through its paces yet. Has anyone else tried it?

Outline Pro is a relic (and I don’t mean that in a bad way) of outlining past. It’s for creating outlines of single documents. It is intended, I believe, primarily for students, as it tries to impose a rigid structure on your writing, including creation of topic sentences for paragraphs. You can, of course, ignore that and work more freewheelingly. It was one of the first apps I bought when I got my iPad, but I never use it (which puts it in great company with about 100 other apps), and when I get a notice that there is an update for it, I smack my forehead and say, “oh yeah, I forgot about that cool app.”

I will be very interested to learn of your experience with it. Thanks for bringing it up.

What can I say? Early versions didn’t fold. ‘Nuff said.

But like Steve, your query has caused me to slap my forehead and say “oh yeah!”

Maybe the latest version DOES fold. Time to take a look…

As it turns out, I also own this app and don’t use it!

I don’t believe it has folding.

What I would like is for one of these apps to use OPML as a default file format, and load/save directly to say Dropbox. I could then seamlessly view/edit those files on Mac or PC.

The whole import/export rigamarole tends to get old after a while, especially when you forget to do it, inadvertantly write over a revision, etc.
