So, DNS13 has just been released (OK, pre-marketed to existing DNS12.5 users). I imagine not many people have had a chance to try it yet, but I thought I’d start a thread for pros and cons of upgrading from DNS12.5 Premium.

http://shop.nuance.co.uk/store/nuanceeu/en_GB/pd/productID.306180800/

It says regular price will be GBP139.99, and the offer is for GBP79.99. While there is a 30-day trial period, it might not be trivial to uninstall and revert to DNS12.5, so I’m a bit cagey.

My main concerns:

1) whenever I upgraded previously, eventually it forced me to buy new hardware to run it properly, so it can get a lot more expensive. So the question is whether this is just a cosmetic, incremental upgrade to bring in a bit more money (in which case why bother upgrading) or a massive redesign, which will need more power.

2) Are the changes good value for money? DNS12.5 already had 99% accuracy, so how much difference will a 15% improvement in accuracy really make?

I’ve noticed that over the last few years Nuance have run frequent “special offers” on upgrades, beyond the initial launch period, so probably one could afford to wait for the reviews.

The Knowbrainer forums (http://www.knowbrainer.com/forums/forum/ - but apparently for some reason offline at the moment) are a reasonable source for up-to-date opinions of recent versions of DNS.
